Workshops

The Broadway Workshop offers special one and two day Master classes with Broadway Stars and Industry Professionals for young actors of ALL skill levels. Our Workshops allow students to learn from the best teachers in the business and build on the skills they have in a positive, supportive setting.

Workshops take place in NYC at Ripley-Grier Studios (520 8th Avenue, between 36th & 37th St.) and on tour in conjunction with theatre companies and other acting programs. E-mail us to host a workshop in your town.

Billy Elliot Master Class

Join us for this special opportunity to work with Billy Elliot Dance Captain Tim Federle. Students will work with Mr. Federle on how to prepare the perfect Billy Elliot audition. ABC Prime Time Casting Workshop THREE!
with Matthew Maisto

Students will work ON-CAMERA with ABC Prime Time Casting Director Matthew Maisto in this special one day Workshop. This Workshop will focus on how to act and specifically how to better audition for film and television. Students will have the opportunity to work on scenes and sides from Matthew's current ABC projects. Student will receive feedback and coaching to help them bring their on-camera performances to the next level.

Casting Director Jennifer Rudin, whose current projects include “Frankenweenie” for Disney will be working with students on how to prepare for musical theatre and film auditions in this special one day workshop. We will focus on giving young actors the tools necessary to help them stand out from the crowd and have more fun with their audition material. Jennifer Rudin was the Director of Casting and Talent Development for Disney Theatrical Productions in New York City from 2007-2009 casting The Little Mermaid, Mary Poppins and Tarzan. Jennifer spent five years as head of casting for Walt Disney Animation Studios and won the 2006 Artios Award for casting “Chicken Little.” Additional animated films include “Meet the Robinsons,” “The Wild,” Academy Award Winning films “The Incredibles” and “Brother Bear.” Upcoming films include Disney”s “The Princess and the Frog,” “Rapunzel” and “Frankenweenie.” Jennifer cast the Los Angeles premiere of Jason Robert Brown’s musical 13. Fall Musical Coaching Day

This class will focus on how to act and audition for the camera and how to create natural characters on film. Teen Pop/Rock Workshop
With American Idol’s Diana Degarmo

American Idol and Broadway Superstar Diana Degarmo joins us for this very special workshop. This class will focus on Pop, Rock, and R&B musical auditions. Miss Degarmo will work with each student on how to take Pop/Rock songs and make it come alive at auditions or performances. In addition to musical selections students will also take part in a dance master class. EACH STUDENT SHOULD PREPARE ONE ROCK/R&B/POP or POP BROADWAY SONG FOR THIS WORKSHOP.

Diana DeGarmo shot to stardom at the age of 16 as the runner up on the 3rd season of American Idol. Following American Idol, Diana released her single “Dreams” which became one of the best selling singles of 2005. She recorded her debut album Blue Skies with RCA Records. Diana toured the United States as part of American Idols Live and in 2005, Diana went on a USO tour to entertain the troops in 13 countries overseas, including Afghanistan and Iraq. Diana made her Broadway debut in Hairspray as Penny Pingleton. Following Hairspary, Diana performed the lead in the 2006 national tour of Brooklyn: The Musical. Recent theatre credits include; Dorothy in a tour of Oz the Musical, the LA production of the musical revue Back to Bacharach and David, The Lyric production of Joseph…. Currently Diana is starring as Sarah in the Off Broadway hit musical Toxic Avenger at New World Stages.

LONNY PRICE- Most recent Broadway- Tony Nominated 110 in the Shade starring Audra McDonald. Lonny directed and co-authored the Ed Kleban musical A Class Act on Broadway (five Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical) and in Los Angeles and Tokyo. He won an Emmy for his film of Sweeney Todd with Patti LuPone (broadcast on PBS), directed the original cast reunion performances of Falsettos that inaugurated Playwrights Horizons’ new complex on Theatre Row and staged the Broadway musical Urban Cowboy. Previously on Broadway, he directed Joan Rivers in her Tony-nominated turn as Lenny Bruce’s mother in Sally Marr...and her escorts (co-authored with Ms. Rivers and Erin Sanders). Off-Broadway, he supervised the Manhattan Theatre Club’s remounting of Athol Fugard’s Valley Song and directed Jules Feiffer’s Grown Ups, Jeff Baron’s Visiting Mr. Green (starring Eli Wallach) and revivals of The Rothschilds and Juno. He has worked with Patti LuPone on a series of staged concert versions of musicals including Pal Joey (Encores!, with Peter Gallagher), Annie Get Your Gun (Lincoln Center with Mr. Gallagher), Sweeney Todd (Lincoln Center with George Hearn and the N.Y. Join us for this incredible opportunity to work with Annie herself: Aileen Quinn. Aileen starred in the famous 1982 film version of ANNIE! This one day Workshop gives students the opportunity to work on every area of musical theater performance. We will focus on giving young actors the tools necessary to help them stand out from the crowd.

Each student should prepare one theatre song for this workshop. Topics covered are:

Aileen Quinn has had a diverse career for over 20 years working in Film, TV, Broadway, Off-Broadway, Regional Theatre, Voice overs and Recordings. At the age of 9 Aileen shot to stardom when she took on the title role in the 1982 film version of Annie starring Carol Burnett and Albert Finney. Some of her favorite roles include: Tessie in the Broadway Production of Annie, Princess Zora in the film Frog Prince, April Coregory in the world premier Irish play That Was Then, Molly in the regional production of The Unsinkable Molly Brown, Chava in the National Tour of Fiddler on the Roof, Bet in the Papermill production of Oliver and more recently Annette in the 1st National Tour of Saturday Night Fever. Aileen graduated with honors from Drew University and is currently a drama professor at Monmouth University.

LAURA BELL BUNDY

Broadway superstar Laura Bell Bundy and TBW Director Marc Tumminelli have put together an incredible workshop for young actors. This one day master class gives students the opportunity to work on every area of musical theater performance. We will focus on giving young actors the tools necessary to help them stand out from the crowd. Each student should prepare one or two musical theatre songs for this workshop. Topics covered are:

Laura Bell Bundy is currently starring as Elle Woods in the hit musical Legally Blonde both on Broadway and on MTV. She also has appeared on Broadway as Amber in the original cast of Hairspray and as Glinda in Wicked. Laura’s charity Kreative Kids benefits young artists in need.
